The women leading the charge:

Simone Schweber is a professor of education in the department of Education Policy Studies at UW-Madison. She is also a newly licensed therapist at Journey Mental Health. She is the proud mom of 2 wonderful kids (one of whom designed this website). She has been battling breast cancer since being diagnosed on October 1, 2022—with two surgeries, chemo and radiation. Her care team has included a huge range of folks, too many to name in all and she is unbelievably grateful to all of them. But to name a few: Matt Banks, her honey, has saved her life in this process, more than once. And Dr.s Wilke, Sharifi and Anderson at UW’s Breast Center deserve more than really good chocolate.

Andrea Steinberger is UW-Madison Hillel’s incredible rabbi, who somehow managed to keep working through chemo, surgery, radiation, and more chemo. She is happily past the point of active treatment and feeling very much alive. In her worklife, she has mentored and supported hundreds of students at Hillel, leading services, running events, and remaining a leader in the field. She is the proud mom of 3 wonderful kids whose unflagging love has helped keep her afloat. She is unbelievably grateful to all the folks who have supported her, many more than can be named. That said: Greg Steinberger, her powerhouse husband, has kept her eyes on the prize and her head above water, over and over again. Dr.s Mark Burkard, Heather Neuman, Bethany Anderson, and Luke Zurbriggen at UW’s Breast Center remain her trail-blazing care team.

Susan Gevelber retired from Madison’s West High last year but can’t stop working. She’s currently teaching at UW-Madison and working for The Discussion Project...and a new Pilates fanatic. She is the mother of two wonderful millenials and a "teacher-mom" to thousands more. While she doesn't have cancer, her BRCA+ status means that she's also benefited from the expertise and research at the UW-Madison’s Breast Center—receiving top-notch prophylactic treatment and routine screening. Susan brings her dormant teacher energy to help Simone and Andrea's fundraising efforts for breast cancer research

While the rest of the participants in this event are supporting the Carbone Cancer Center altogether, our team's monies are being targeted specifically towards The Breast Center, which focuses on breast and ovarian cancer research and treatment.
